Mail Filtering Using Mozilla

The mail client in Mozilla has the ability to create filters that match text strings, but not regular expressions. You can use this to match the number of "stars" on the "X-SLUUG-MailScanner-SpamScore" header or the spam/not spam marker on the "X-SLUUG-MailScanner-SpamCheck" header.

Actions that can be taken include moving messages to a different folder, deleting messages, and marking messages in various ways.

This example uses the number of stars to move spam to different folders. It was tested on Mozilla 1.3, and other releases might have different syntax.

• Open the "Mail & Newsgroups" window.
• Create any new folders you desire.
• On the top menu bar, select "Tools", then "Message Filters".
• On the "Message Filters" dialog box, make sure the correct message source is selected.
• Select the "New" button to create a new filter.
• On the "Filter Rules" dialog box:
  • Enter the desired "Filter name".
  • In the "Match ..." section:
    • Select "Customize" in the left drop-down option.
    In the "Customize Headers" dialog box, type "X-SLUUG-MailScanner-SpamScore" in the top box, then select "Add", then "OK".
    • Select "X-SLUUG-Ma..." in the left drop-down option.
    • Select "contains" in the center drop-down option.
    • Enter "sssss" in the right value box. Use however many "stars" fit your needs.
  • In the "Perform these actions" section:
    • Select the box to the left of "Move to folder:".
    • In the drop-down option listing folders, select the desired folder.
• Repeat to create other rules with different number of stars if desired.
• On the "Message Filters" dialog box use the "Move Up" and "Move Down" buttons to put the rules with the most stars first.
