12 Developers going. Before the meeting, please create a 2 minute
pitch for one of the games that's been floating around in your head
(or an all new one!). If you're successful in your pitch this will
lead to buy-in from others and you'll begin working on a game this
very night. You definitely do NOT need to pitch anything. I wasn't
really planning on pitching anything myself though I have an idea I
may pitch should I feel so inspired.

       Google Guava
There are a lot of ways to learn better programming
techniques. One of the best ways is to see examples revealing
just what is possible. Take those examples and package them
into a general purpose library and you have Google Guava!
In this presentation, we explore Guava code in the following
       com.google.common subpackages: * base * collect * io * net *
       primitives * util.concurrent There's a lot in here, so I'll
list 'em all, but focus on those that will give you the most
value or illustrate the most interesting approaches. From simple
toStringHelper() methods to powerful immutable collection factory
methods to bi-directional maps allowing look-up via value or key,
you'll see plenty of ways Guava can streamline your code to make
it cleaner, more elegant, and more maintainable. By the time we
finish, I guarantee you'll be devising arguments you'll make the
next day to get Guava adopted into your project! So arrive on
time as we'll be starting promptly at 6:00pm to cover the bounty
of goodies Google provides in the Guava library. more details

Mind-Blowing Apps on the iPad2!" by Scott Granneman. Also,
a basic session on "systemd and sysctl" by Jerry Stutte.
	     =================================================================
DETAILS on both topics... The basics portion will be
on systemd and sysctl by Jerry Stutte A continuation of
the System V init, chkconfig and services presentation
(only with a twist): He will be presenting on how our
universe and collective knowldege of System V's init,
daemons, chkconfig, and services, as it pertains to LINUX
(as we know it now) is colliding with an alternate LINUX
Universe. The collision is already occuring and it appears
System V's init, chkconfig and service commands already
are being replaced (like something out of "Invasion of
the body Snatchers"). Software developers and Systems
administrators should be aware of these developments.

Our main event will be Amazing, Stupendous, Mind-Blowing Apps
for iPad2 by Scott Granneman and Jans Carton.

For those that aren't familiar with any
	     of the Apple technology:
	     # iPod - plays music, videos, and can run some apps,
depending on the model. NOT a phone.
	     # iPhone - does everything an iPod does, including apps, but
	     is also a phone.
	     # iPad - basically a giant iPod; again, no
phone (but the extra size allows you to do amazing things,
as you'll see) It's becoming crystal clear that tablets and
other mobile devices are leading the computing revolution
into the next decade, and at the forefront (at least for
now) is Apple's iPad. Scott Granneman and Jans Carton
will demonstrate iPad apps that they find particularly
useful, cool, or amazing - sometimes all three at the
same time! You'll see apps for everything from video to
games to reading to productivity, and much, much more. We
guarantee you'll see something that makes you think, and
something else that makes you go "Wow!". Read ahead this
eWeek article: Apple iPad2 Improves on Original Then, if
you still have time to kill, read yet another alternative
view, with possibly some minor relevance: The future of
	     the computer

Title: Akka - Scaling Up and Out with Actors
		 - Presented By: Tim Dalton (OCI) About the
Presentation: The Actor model is a simple yet powerful
abstraction for developing systems for parallelism and
concurrency. Actors are entities that process messages
received asynchronously. Akka is an open-source
implementation of the Actor model that aims to be
"the platform for the next generation event-driven,
scalable and fault-tolerant architectures on the
JVM." Akka actors can be very lightweight and many
thousands can created within a single JVM. They can also
be started on remote servers allowing scalability across
machines. Akka incorporates ideas from other technologies
like Erlang and Clojure to provide features including
fault-tolerance using supervisor hierarchies and Software
Transactional Memory. Though Akka is written in Scala,
it is designed to be useful to any JVM language. Akka
is part of the technology stack offered by Typesafe,
a new company announced on May 12th, 2011. Typesafe is
a joint venture between the creators of Akka and Scala
with an advisory board that includes James Gosling
(creator of Java) and concurrency expert, Doug Lea.
