the "Set your gravatar email block").
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
ORDER OF EVENTS:
First some simple introductions, administrative minutia, announcements,
and then you can Call For Help during our Questions and Answers period.
Sometimes we will watch a video or have a slide show presentation,
after which there will be general discussions that usually lead to
additional topics.
Sometimes, there can be a live demonstration of a Linux distribution
(distro) installation, updating, changes, features and applications.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
TOPICS:
Whatever the newest user needs to know.
The newest user in the meeting may select general and specific topics.
We won't pick just one ahead of time. We will accept suggestions and
requests, as the course of the meeting will be entirely up to those
that attend. Join us to share our knowledge, learning experiences,
problem solving, techniques and troubleshooting.
We can mostly explore the traditional Graphical User Interface (GUI),
as it is easy to use, often familiar, and friendly to use. We will NOT
focus on the Command Line Interface (CLI) as it is seldom required and
generally optional for day to day use. However, it has many benefits.
We have access to many formal slide show presentations; but, we use
them only to present information and encourage discussion. We encourage
and prefer lively interaction and user questions. We always want user
questions to be asked. We never think that any question is too dumb.
A selected topic will NOT restrict the course of our meetings. These
topics are tentative. They are only suggestions.

TOPIC: What's new at SUSE by Michael Carrington
BIO: https://www.sluug.org/bio/Michael_Carrington.shtml
SYNOPSIS:
OpenSUSE Leap has a great transition now to Enterprise Linux, so it’s
a great play for developers and start ups.
We always have configuration management, but that only really becomes
cost beneficial at scale. Either way, salt is pretty powerful and we
can demo a few different things.
SuSE has continuing developments with kubernetes.
And, we may talk about: What’s new in the 15.3 release? openSuSE
TumbleWeed vs openSuSE Leap vs SLES vs SLED. the diff of openSuSE 15.3
vs. SuSE 15.3.
(Editor’s note: And Michael has not mentioned a “head-to-head
comparison” but many of our members are interested in the "development
into production environment” and how it differs between SuSE and
their corporate-competitor, Red Hat. Last winter, Red Hat shocked users
changing the relationship of CentOS to Fedora and RHEL. A number of folk
are impressed by the stability of the openSuSE to SuSE relationship and
are interested in how the two companies contrast in this.)

“PXE Boot = Remotely boot Linux from The Net”
using pfsense and FreeNAS/TrueNAS
By Wendell Barber
PXE allows booting without having the operating system on a local disk...or for that matter...not even having a local disk!
The Preboot eXecution Environment, PXE (most often pronounced as /ˈpɪksiː/ pixie) specification describes a standardized client–server environment that boots a software assembly, retrieved from a network, on PXE-enabled clients. On the client side it requires only a PXE-capable network interface controller (NIC), and uses a small set of industry-standard network protocols such as DHCP and TFTP.
The concept behind the PXE originated in the early days of protocols like BOOTP/DHCP/TFTP, and as of 2015 it forms part of the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) standard. In modern data centers, PXE is the most frequent choice for operating system booting, installation and deployment.

LINUX WORKSHOP
The workshop is where we usually configure, examine, fix, install,
repair, and troubleshoot difficult hardware and software configuration
problems for Linux newcomers. Problems with other operating systems and
hardware are also frequently fixed.
The extant Saint Louis Area Computer Club (SLACC) is the oldest, longest
enduring, continuously meeting personal computer organization active in
the Greater St. Louis Metro Area.
NO PHYSICAL MEETINGS until further notice. Our usual library
reservations for room meetings were cancelled indefinitely. Room fees
had previously been paid by the St. Louis Unix Users Group (SLUUG).
Omnitec Corporation now provides us with this JITSI server.
Face-to-face meeting were usually held on the first Thursday of every
month from 6:30 PM until 9:00 PM Central Time, USA. We hope to maintain
that timeline into the future by using ONLINE sessions. All physical
meetings and ONLINE sessions are free and open to the public.
We have no membership dues or other charges for the meetings. So,
please join us at our next meetings, sessions or other events for fun,
knowledge and networking. All computer hardware, operating systems and
software are explored.
