The Great Pershing Balloon Derby is a hot air balloon festival named in
honor of WW I General John J. Pershing and held every year since 1977 over
the Labor Day weekend.
The balloon derby is held in conjunciton with many other festivities
including beauty contests, concerts, parades, and a
fly-in at the local airport.
Launches are generally at dusk and dawn on Saturday and Sunday and at
dawn on Monday (Labor Day). A night glow is usually held at sunset on
Sunday evening.

one's thoughts has emerged from the realm of fiction to one of serious

Neurological Surgery and Biomedical Engineering at Washington

talk will discuss how The Genome Center at Washington U. in St.
Louis is using the design philosophy of UNIX, small reusable components,
to develop software and schedule work.
The talk will also discuss how the application of this philosophy has
allowed The Genome Center to sequence and analyze the genomes of hundreds
of cancer patients, the exomes of hundreds of diabetics, and the platypus.
