TOPIC Update on SuSE by Michael Carrington
Including Rancher Labs acquisition (Kubernettes system) by SUSE Corp.
and SuSE Storage update.
Rancher is a complete software stack for teams adopting containers.
It addresses the operational and security challenges of managing
multiple Kubernetes clusters, while providing DevOps teams with
integrated tools for running containerized workloads.
There's only one version of Rancher; it's 100% free and open-source
software.
A fundamental difference between Kubernetes and Docker is that
Kubernetes is meant to run across a cluster while Docker runs on a
single node. Kubernetes is more extensive than Docker Swarm and is
meant to coordinate clusters of nodes at scale in production in an
efficient manner.
Kubernetes contains powerful functionality for orchestrating
applications and guaranteeing service availability. Rancher adds a
complete UI and workload management layer to Kubernetes, that simplifies
adoption and integrates CI/CD as well as key open source projects
The Top Alternatives & Competitors to Rancher:
Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) (173)
Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform. (50)
Kubernetes. (48)
Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) (31)
Docker
AWS Fargate. ...
Cloud Foundry. ...
Portainer. ...
Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (formerly Docker Enterprise)
Cisco Container Platform
