The latest release, ie 16.0, came out on 1 Oct 2025.
The previous, i.e. Leap 15.6 went EOL (End Of Life) just over 2 weeks ago
on 30 April .
openSUSE is the "open source" version of SUSE Enterprise Linux.
openSUSE Leap 16 is one of the biggest shifts in the SUSE ecosystem in
years — bringing:
- the new Agama installer,
- Cockpit-based administration,
- stronger enterprise alignment,
- Wayland-first desktops,
- SELinux by default,
and a growing focus on:
- containers,
- immutable systems, and
- AI workloads.
This session takes a practical, real-world look at:
- what actually changed,
- what works well,
- what still breaks, and
- what longtime Linux admins need to know before deploying or upgrading.
We’ll cover:
- Leap vs Tumbleweed,
- YaST changes,
- Packman realities,
- btrfs/snapper recovery,
- Wayland pain points,
- container workflows, and
- live demos of modern openSUSE administration tools.
