Scott Granneman was teaching a class at the university when
the revolution occurred in Egypt. The topic in the class became a daily

history making events. Was it not just the access to The Internet but
the nature of the "social media"? Scott has consolidated these
realizations into a one evening presentation for us.

A Daylight Comet Next September?
What Makes A Comet Bright?
by Dr. Joseph Marcus, M.D.
A new comet has been discovered that will pass between the Earth and the sun
at the end of September 2011. If the right conditions develop, the comet could become
bright enough to be seen during the daytime. But the brightness of new comets has been
notoriously difficult to predict accurately. Dr. Marcus will explain what makes a comet
shine and what factors determine how bright a comet will become. He will also discuss
something about the composition of comets. He will explain how we can tell what a comet
is made of, from a distance typically millions of miles away.

Really BIG Full Moon
Saturday, Mar 19, 2011
http://preview.tinyurl.com/6emlvlp
Biggest Full Moon in 19 Years Almost Certainly Won't Cause a Huge Natural
Disaster.
On March 19th, the moon will be closer to Earth than it's been since
1992. The full moon that night will appear about 14 percent larger and significantly
brighter than usual, but despite the brightness, the supermoon has a dark side.
Supermoons have been linked to massive natural disasters in the past, from earthquakes to
floods--but that connection is typically touted by astrologists. Astronomers and
scientists, with typical drollness, say a catastrophe is unlikely.
