Abstract:
Bash is both a shell and a full programming language. However, it is
quite different from most other programming languages. This tutorial
helps you understand one such difference: Variable scopes which is just a

How far into a script does a variable continue to exist?
(This *was originally* *advertised* as the "basic tutorial" *for last
week*'s
general mtng. It was *MOVED TO TONITE* because it grew in length to fill
this longer time slot.)
