Filesystem in User Space ("FUSE") is a linux Extension that allows
unprivileged users to access various types of storage services
without superuser access to mount them. Examples include "sshfs"
for file access via SSH or "encfs" for an encrypted filesystem.
FUSE gives linux users this added flexibility without the overhead
or security risks of granting superuser to acces them.
This talk looks at the baisc mechanism for FUSE and examines some
of the tradeoffs using them and how to use a few of the common ones.
BIO:
Steve Lembark installed his first RH distribution on a 486 using floppies cut by Eric
Troan
in his garage, back when people told Eric he was an idiot for trying to make money off
of something that was"free" to begin with. They also told Eric that: nobody
would use
open-source in a corporate environment, companies wanted something backed by
a "real company" like IBM.
Steve’s been a long-time member of SLUUG and frequent speaker. He is a
principle at Workhorse Consulting and sadly no longer lives in StL.
