THERE IS A FEE! $$$
Topic: 50 Years in Technology: Nothing as Constant as
Change! Statistics show that for most entrepreneurs, success is
fleeting.
That is particularly true in technology-focused businesses where
risk is inherently high, the pace of evolution rapid and
the need for innovation constant. ...

CONFIRMED -They ARE meeting DESPITE the World Series!
This month= Core Animation Fun House
Animation is “core” to every iOS app. This talk dives into
the Core Animation framework.
We will discuss the different types of CALayer objects, implicit and
explicit animations, and a technique for
animating sine waves and arcs.
* Layers, Geometery and Layer Trees
* Implicit Animations (size, position, color, etc.)
* Explicit Animations (continuous animations, path animations, etc.)
* Animating with the UIKit API * Multi-touch Bézier curve editor
(with path animation)
* Technique for animating sine waves and arcs (think pie charts).
* Technique for creating reflections using CAReplicatorLayer
* 6:00pm - Meet/Greet
* 6:15pm - Core Animation Fun House by Brian Coyner
* 8:30pm - Next Meeting Details, Questions / Discussions
VENUE: St. Louis County Library Headquarters (40 & Lindbergh).
We are a group of software developers dedicated to diving deep into
Apple’s iOS platform.
Our goal is take our current software engineering skills (Java, ObjC, C
++) and learn how to apply those skills to the iOS platform.

Modeling using freely available COMPUTER SOFTWARE.

DescriptionVenue: Nursing Institute building, Missouri Baptist
Hospital Complex
http://www.slsrc.org/
Introductory demonstration of Radio Antenna Modeling using freely
available computer software.
Jobst Vandrey (AC0LP) will show how to use antenna modeling software
to plan or modify an antenna
design so that it meets specific communication needs. Topics will
include horizontal antennas,
vertical antennas, and directional antennas. Demonstrations will
include how antenna properties
change with wire size, height above ground and physical
orientation. The demonstration will display
some of the basic capabilities of antenna modeling software so that
members who wish can download
the software and begin to experiment with models of their own
antennas. While the demonstration will
focus on wire antennas for the 20 and 40 meter bands, the software
used in the demonstration
will work for antenna designs on all amateur bands.

CODERS - Code Until Dawn in STL
Fri, October 28, 11pm – Sat, October 29, 12am
DescriptionVENUE: Location may change each month.
http://www.meetup.com/allnightlong/
Once a month, get together for an all-night hacking session. Stay as
long or as short as you'd like.
We started this group to spend time with other St Louis developers.
This group is for anyone who wants
to catch up on that nagging side project at a late night, caffeinated
coding session with like-minded individuals.
All skill levels and languages are welcome.

'c' - the speed of light : more than just a speed limit, it is the
glue between space and time
Professor Francesc Ferrer, Department of Physics, Washington U
201 Crow
In 1905, Albert Einstein postulated in his theory of special
relativity that the speed of light
in vacuum, 'c', is a fundamental constant of nature. The equivalence
of mass and energy (E = mc2),
the relation between space and time - these are among the many
implications of Einsteins postulate
(counterintuitive yet experimentally verified). In this talk, we
will review the measurement attempts
leading to the conclusion, in the 17th century, that light travels at
a finite speed. We will then go on
to explore the consequences of its constancy: from the profound link
between space and time,
to more practical applications such as the Global Positioning System
(GPS), and the study of the evolution of the universe.
