TOPIC The Internet Of Things
4633 World Pkwy Cir, Berkeley, MO 63134
-----------------------------------------------
There will be some social networking and general Q&A starting at 6:30.
The actual presentation will start after 7.
Member Paul Berglund is going to present on how "Things" can be connected
to the Internet and each other. "The Internet of Things" was the
favorite catch phrase at last week's CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in
Las Vegas.
Right now, computers rely mostly on people for the input of data, but
imagine a world in which everything could communicate with computers
without people needing to take the time inputting that data. A world
in which our "things" kept track of when they needed replacing, repairing,
recalling or restocking. It's coming sooner than you think, and promises
greatly reduced waste, loss and cost.
Paul has a collection of different "sensors" for water, temperature,
humidity,... Some Paul has "scavagnged" out of existing equipment and
computers for free. Some are inexpensive and he'll show us a couple
of online catalogs.
Paul hooks them into Ardino boards, AdaFruits, & Rasberry Pis (computers
smaller than a deck of playing cards). He'll show us a couple of the
fun things he has automated.
Paul is the principle at Bergland Tech Services where they specialize in
Macintosh Support (altho obviously they are getting into fun with Linux
as well on these Raspberry Pis!).
