TOPIC: System Configuration Updates By David Forrest
David uses a personally designed bash script to copy configuration files.
We'll go thru his script which is run periodically to check for and
record differences in how his particular computer is configured.
The archived configuration files can be utilized for:
1. Cloning to new hardware
2. Rebuilding/reinstalling on existing hardware
3. Rollback/checkpoints in case you think that configuration changes
have caused a problem.
BREAKING NEWS: Last week, in a surprise, the DEATH of CentOS LINUX
was announced by Red Hat! This seems to still not be well understood.
Dave has been using his configuration archiving script on his systems'
CentOS 8 upgrade this year and was planning on using it as an example.
Although NOT originally intended as a subject of this meeting, we will
undoubtedly have some discussion of this shocking news.
