Rube Goldberg: Applying the UNIX Philosophy to Genomics
By David Dooling
UNIX is an operating system designed by engineers for engineers. This
talk will discuss how The Genome Center at Washington University in St.
Louis is using the design philosophy of UNIX, small reusable components,
to develop software and schedule work. The talk will also discuss how
the application of this philosophy has allowed The Genome Center to
sequence and analyze the genomes of hundreds of cancer patients, the
exomes of hundreds of diabetics, and the platypus.
