The 6:30 session will be... a _VIM Workshop_ by Bill Odum.
This month's session will cover KEY MAPPING in the "Vi IMproved" editor.
It's fundamental to customizing the Vim interface, and it touches on
other topics (like modes and motions) that are worth reinforcing.
This will be one of many Vim geekout worksession over the next few
months. They will frequently fill the timeslot formerly used by the
basic/tutorial session. Bring your laptop and "hack along with the rest
of us trying out the commands and code as we go".

Our main event will be
An Introduction to Using Amazon Web Services
by
Scott Granneman and Jans Carton.
In 2002 Amazon changed the Internet by offering Amazon Web Services
(AWS), a collection of remote computing services that together make up a
robust, scalable, inexpensive, innovative cloud computing platform.
Ranging from storage to virtual servers to queueing, AWS now stores more
than 100 billion objects and is used by more than 500,000 developers.
In this talk, Scott Granneman and Jans Carton (bios on
sluug.org) will
go over some of the major components of AWS and show you how to set up,
create, and manage them, with special attention given to EC2 (Elastic
Compute Cloud), EBS (Elastic Block Storage), and S3 (Simple Storage
Service).

Cosmic inflation: more than a theory.
The extremely rapid expansion of the universe is thought to have
occurred shortly after the Big Bang. However, the theory of inflation
bears a striking resemblance to the theory of evolution: both are really
paradigms for thinking about a scientific subject, rather than a
specific testable theory.
