BASE: AWK & SEd are the power tools
by James Conroy
Intro to the Power Tools of Unix Text Manipulation
One of the best things about Unix and Unix like systems is the ability to pipe and
redirect plain text from one program to another.
Using built in commands you can do many operations such as sorting, counting lines and
search for strings in outputs.
But what if you want to do more complicated processes, or do these operates on a massive
file?
That is where the power tools come in. Much as a carpenter has an assortment of tools
ranging from hand saws for detail work to lathes, we have access to the power tools of the
text processing world.
AWK and SEd are the power tools of the plain text world. They are able to do massive and
complex actions that would take forever by hand.
This talk is an introduction to AWK, SEd, and Regex's.
MAIN: "Taking containers to the next level with orchestration".
by Matt Skipton of WWT
from Wikipedia: Kubernetes
<https://www.google.com/url?q=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kubernetes&sa=D&usd=2&usg=AOvVaw08gpr5KcqTQnHv9Woe5W5A>:
Kubernetes is an open-source container-orchestration system for automating deployment,
scaling and management of applications. It was originally designed by Google and is now
maintained by the Cloud Native Computing Foundation. ... ... ...
The next major step in using Containers is to coordinate as many as are needed, discarding
any instances not required. This concept is called "orchestration", and can
handle from just a few to many thousands of containers, depending on the requirements of
the workload.
Matt will discuss the problems that the Advanced Technology Center at World Wide
Technology faced with application hosting. The pros and cons of using containers and how
they deployed Kubernetes to fill in some of the gaps.
Matt Skipton is currently a Principal Solutions Architect with World Wide Technology. Most
recently he has been managing several development teams that are writing applications for
the WWT Advanced Technology Center. In addition to management Matt has a focus on
DevOps for the teams. He has previously held positions as a System Engineer at VMware
and SuSe Linux.
Meetings are every 2nd Wednesday of the month from 6:30PM to 9:00PM.
6:30 Basic/tutorial
7:00 announcements & general Q&A
7:30 main feature presentation
=====================================
SLUUG is your forum for exchanging information about OPEN standards, OPEN systems, OPEN
source, products, services and architectures.
We usually start the general meeting with a basic session, which may include either simple
tutorials, displays of newly discovered web sites, command line wonders, demonstrations of
useful applications, amazing graphical packages, major resolution of long standing
anomalies, blinking lights, or quantum shifts in both time and space. Then we will have
our usually quick welcome, introduction, administrative announcements, and a Call For Help
- Questions and Answers Period. After all that, we take a break before our main event.

TOPIC: Crypto Coin Mining on Raspberry Pi
by
Gary Thompson
I plan to cover my knowledge of the crypto coin mining that is available. But, mostly I
will cover my own experience in using the Pi as a control base for mining. This spans
about 5 years. As you may know, most mining operations require lots of computing power,
not found on the Pi, but in equipment controlled by the Pi software. I will also discuss
the Pi software and demo a working version - sort of the guts of what is needed.
Also I can make available a list of links to related sites that deal with mining or access
which will help anyone that is interested in investing in coin acquisition.
