General Meeting on Wednesday - 11 November 2009
The St. Louis Unix Users Group (SLUUG) general meetings are usually on
the second Wednesday of each month.
The basic session is on *Grub2 under Ubuntu* by Gary McKee.
Linux distributions are finally starting to use this newer version of
the bootloader. This informal session will be an informative discussion
of the durnburnits, gotchas, pitfalls and eurekas that Gary ran into,
along with his amazing off the wall, outside the norm solutions, and
strange directions. Open your mind and learn from this master of tinkering.
Our main event will be *Cascading Style Sheets* by Bill Edney (with Jans
Carton).
Because of conflicts the Snow Leopard topic has to be delayed to January.
William (Bill) J. Edney has been doing software development for more years
than he cares to remember, although the words 'TRS-80 BASIC' might give a
clue. He has done Object-Oriented programming since 1987 and Web development
full-time since 1997. He revels in using and building dynamic environments
and avoids compilers whenever he can :-) .
This talk will cover CSS2 and CSS3 as it is implemented in modern Web
browsers. It will delve deeply into how proper CSS is constructed and how
the browsers apply that CSS to markup hosted in a Web page. An extremely
brief introduction to CSS will be given and a few best practices will
be covered. Read ahead
